Ordr Cyber Security Integration

EQ2 and Ordr Partner with a New Integration that Aids Cyber Security and Safety Recalls in Healthcare

Camarillo, CA and Charlotte, NC, October 27, 2021EQ2, LLC, a leader in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for the healthcare market with its “HEMS®” family of products has announced a new integration with Ordr – the leader in agentless security for all connected devices. The HTM (Healthcare Technology Management) team at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is the first to utilize the new integration. According to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation® (AAMI), HTM “is responsible for managing the selection, maintenance, and safe use of all health technology and medical equipment found in healthcare.”

The integration empowers the HTM team at DHMC to proactively take steps to secure medical devices and equipment from cyber security threats and aids in the safety recall process.

Ordr sends real-time asset inventory information to HEMS into the individual asset record and even triggers work orders based on predefined rules when appropriate. Some of those items include:

  • Location, software and operating system versions, and MAC/IP addresses information

  • Date and time stamp of when an asset was first seen and last seen on the network

  • Matching serial numbers, manufacturer, and model number

  • Whether device is networked and if so, what other devices it is connected to

  • Identifying medical devices at risk for cybersecurity or a recall

Details such as those listed above enable a biomedical/HTM engineer to quickly identify discrepancies at the individual asset level. Those discrepancies can then be addressed, to ensure that each asset’s individual and network details will be accurate and that all devices connecting to the network are legitimate and explicitly allowed. This will be invaluable to help identify a compromised device during a security incident or to pull affected items out of rotation as part of a safety recall event before being used in treating a patient.

In addition, rather than having to physically locate a device to determine the current version of software it is running, a technician can now simply view the HEMS asset record, which displays the current version that Ordr is reporting. This saves precious time when a software update or patch is required.

Reporting in HEMS is also enhanced through reporting out by a specific asset detail such as IP address. For example, when an FDA recall is issued, the Ordr and HEMS correlation enables HTM teams to get a list of all devices and their associated IP addresses with one click.
